Our focus this year is on that precious resource: WATER.
Good Neighbours Don’t Make our Taps Run Dry
We object to the proposed CBM mega-quarry and Osprey Valley Golf’s involvement in extracting and dumping up to 500 million litres of water per year, putting local drinking water wells, ecosystems and the Credit River at risk.
Consequences of the proposed mega-quarry include:
- Threatening local drinking water supply for the residents near the site
- Degrading the Credit River’s health, warming and polluting its waters to the point that it will endanger species like Brook trout that have already seen an 80% decline in their numbers in this watershed over the last 50 years
What makes this situation especially concerning:
- Osprey Valley Golf’s agreement to accept the water is a key enabling factor in the mega-quarry application.
The mega-quarry proposal conflicts with the objectives of Golf Canada’s environmental stewardship goals and (main sponsor) RBC’s climate action policies. It makes sense to share our Water concerns while the RBC Canadian Open event is happening.
This 2 hour event is intended to be a highly visible, peaceful and respectful Action, to bring public attention to the need to protect water.
Details about the exact location, parking arrangements, etc will be provided when you RSVP.
** We have asked for your phone number in the RSVP in case there are any last minute updates that we need to share.
