More than just three Rivers and a Creek.

WETLANDS

Important because they:

  • recharge groundwater that feed our wells
  • provide natural filtering of water therefore reducing pollutants
  • provide essential habitat for wildlife and migratory birds
  • capture and store carbon from the atmosphere

COULTERVILLE WETLAND - a Provincially Significant Wetland

  • largest wetland in the immediate area
  • contains 36 significant species and more than 100 other spieces
  • provides permanent water flow to the Credit River along tow paths, including east into the Credit River through Osprey Valley Golf Course

TRIBUTARIES

Important because they:

  • collect water from smaller streams, rain runoff and winter snowmelt, delivering the water to the main rivers and ensuring they are always flowing
  • transport sediment and organic matter that supply nutrients and food for the main rivers' ecological processes

CONNECTED TO THE COULTERVILLE WETLAND

Tributary 1:

  • from the weland over to and down Mississauga Road
  • also captures spring runoff
  • drops into the Recharge Kettle above Charleston Side Road and recharges the shallow aquifer

Tributaries 4&5:

  • #5 runs from the wetland
  • it joins #4 on the east side of Main Street then runs through Osprey Valley Golf Course and flows into the Credit River

Tributary 8:

  • from the wetland under then down Mississauga Road and across Charleston to Winston Churchill Road
  • delivers water, sediment and organic material to the West Credit River
